Product Description
Wii (pronounced 'we') is Nintendo's new home video game console that represents a radical step into a new era of entertainment. For years, video games have been growing in popularity but also in complexity. With Wii, Nintendo changes the way you play by maximising the fun and minimising the fuss. The Wii console makes you feel less like a player and more like you're in the game. Frenzied sword battles are no longer confined to pushing a button. With Wii's unique Wii Remote controller, Nintendo puts you in the middle of the action. Forget about pushing a button to start a golf backswing. Wii lets you swing the club! Don't push a button to swing a sword, actually swing the sword. Video games have always been a part of you, now you get to be a part of them. Step up to the next level of gaming. Over time, gaming has become overwhelming to people. The Wii console returns gaming to simpler times while innovating game development at the same time. The unique Wii Remote gives parents and grandparents a chance to play games with their children. It gives gamers and traditional non-gamers a chance to share the same experiences in this new generation of gaming. For those who grew up with video games, Wii shows that games have not outgrown them.

Amazon.co.uk Review - Wii Sports
In a nutshell:
As if the idea of five games in one package didn't sound a good enough deal on its own the Wii's best multiplayer compendium comes free with the console.

The lowdown:
Clearly realising that they need to provide some quick and obvious reasons why the Wii Remote is such a good idea Nintendo have packed in this compilation with the console, which includes simple versions of tennis, golf, baseball, bowling and boxing. The four player tennis game is the obvious stand out as you swing the Remote exactly as you would a real tennis racket, with the game seeming to almost magically interpret your movements into the game. All the other games work in a similar way, as you hold the Remote like a golf club or ready it like a baseball bat - you can even use it to gently roll bowling bowls and add some subtle aftertouch. The graphics make be purposefully basic but these are the games to instantly prove why the Wii is going to be such a revolution.

Most exciting moment:
While even Wii Tennis can be played with very minor movements of the Wii Remote the boxing game actively encourages you to act things out properly. You hold up both the Remote and the nunchuck to simulate your two hands and then duck and weave as you switch between trying to pummel your opponent and dodging or blocking their own attacks.

Since you ask:
You can use your own customised Mii Channel character in any of the games for that personal touch. The idea was originally just a joke featuring caricatures of Nintendo's top brass for a press conference, but it proved so popular that Nintendo ensured anyone could make their own character to play with.

The bottom line:
Five of the best games on the Wii and they all come free with the console!-HARRISON DENT

i luv my wii i have had it for a week now and it is the best thing since sliced bread.
the console is so sleek, cute and compact and looks great. the controls look great and come with rubber jackets which make the game play alot more comfortable and easy.
everything about this console makes it so easy to set up and play it didnt take me long atall!!.
you get wii sports with the console which is great. my favourites are tennis, bowling and golf. golf is my all time favouite the scenery is stunning. all the games r easy to play and the way u use the controls to interact with the game i.e swinging the control like a club for the golf etc is class.

3 out of 5 stars Not for me...   June 9, 2009

Before I begin, just let me say this. The Nintendo Wii console may not be to everyone's taste. Obviously, it was not to mine. If you are looking for brilliant lifelike graphics and such, the Wii is not for you. You would be better off purchasing an Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. However, if you are looking for something fun, something new and something for which the family can enjoy, I definitely recommend buying a Wii.

I bought the Wii for two reasons. One was because I liked the idea of moving around etc instead of just pressing buttons half of the time and two was because simply, I wanted to try it out. After all, how bad could it be?! I do not regret buying the Wii but I see now that it is the wrong console for me. And here's why:

Pros:

Using the nunchuck and controller is great, minus strain injuries! If you want to punch something like a door, you do it physically! I really felt as if I was carrying out the actions myself and it was fun.

Unlike previous consoles, the Wii is much smaller so it is more compact and less noisy than say, the Xbox 360, which is nice. It does not even need a memory card!!

You can play on game cube games as well as Wii games.

You can upload pictures of yourself etc via a built-in SD card reader. You can also create your own Mii.

The Wii seems to have more variety in games compared to some other consoles.

Cons:

OK. Let's get this out of the way first. The graphics are terrible and I mean terrible. Some games are clearly better than others in terms of graphics but wow! If you're looking for HD gaming and top-notch graphics, you do not want to buy a Wii. A simple comparison video will show you what I mean.

Disappointingly, the Wii cannot play DVD's or even CD's. Not that I would use it for those devices anyway (he, he, he!)

The wire connecting the nunchuck to the Wii remote is far too short. I think it would have been better if wireless. Basically, if you want to play sporty games such as tennis, it may be a little difficult to stretch your arms out due to the length of the wire.

Unfortunately, the Wii cannot go online in the same way Xbox's can, big letdown for online gamers such as myself.

The batteries in the controller do not seem to last very long. I would recommend buying re-chargeable batteries.

The Wii is not a bad little machine for what it is. I would recommend checking out a couple of the games first to see if they are right for you and what you are interested in. If not, I highly suggest getting an Xbox 360. The Wii is good although clearly, it is not right for me. For that, I can only rate it three stars. Think before you buy it. 3/5.

Loving the games on Wii Sports. Particularly Tennis and Golf. The Boxing doesn;t work that well though (or maybe it's just me), but that would be my ony small complaint. Everything great about the console too.

4 out of 5 stars Just waiting for some games   May 27, 2009

I've owned the Wii for about 6 months now and I wouldn't trade it for a 360 or PS3 for anything. I love the way that the controllers make every game more interactive. I've yet to play anything that didn't play better, or was at least more satisfying, when I played it standing on my feet.
